The Budget Office of the Federation has defended the controversial ₦1.3 billion budgetary allocation made for the Presidential Economic Advisory Council during an investigative hearing by the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee.
The committee, currently probing issues surrounding the appropriation, raised concerns over the justification and transparency of the expenditure. Lawmakers questioned the basis for the allocation and sought detailed explanations from officials representing the Budget Office.
In its defence, the Budget Office maintained that the appropriation followed established budgetary procedures and was included in line with government financial regulations. Officials also assured the committee that all necessary documentation would be made available to support the expenditure.
The hearing forms part of the House of Representatives' ongoing oversight efforts aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public funds.
The committee is expected to continue its investigation, with additional stakeholders likely to appear before the panel as lawmakers work to determine whether due process was followed in the approval and implementation of the allocation.
