The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding Nigeria's global investment profile following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's approval of a high-powered delegation to participate in the maiden Nigeria Diaspora Investment and Economic Conference (NIDEC 2026) in Toronto, Canada.

The delegation, led by the President's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, is expected to engage investors, business executives and members of the Nigerian diaspora on opportunities across key sectors of the economy, including agriculture, energy, manufacturing, technology, infrastructure and solid minerals.

Officials say the conference is part of the administration's broader strategy to attract foreign direct investment, promote non-oil exports and strengthen partnerships that will support economic growth. The event is also expected to highlight ongoing reforms aimed at improving Nigeria's investment climate and creating a more competitive business environment.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) noted that the conference will provide a platform for meaningful dialogue between government officials, private sector stakeholders and international investors, with discussions expected to focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, job creation and sustainable development.

The Federal Government believes the active participation of Nigerians in the diaspora remains critical to achieving long-term economic objectives, stressing that their expertise, networks and investments can significantly contribute to national development.

As preparations for the conference continue, government officials expressed optimism that the engagement would strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Canada while opening new channels for trade, investment and strategic economic cooperation.
